Need a Hospital
Here's how to find medical help in Japan as a foreign visitor.
Protect Yourself with Travel Insurance
Medical costs in Japan can be very high. We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance before your trip.
1
For life-threatening emergencies
Call 119 immediately. Say 'Kyuukyuu desu' (ๆๆฅใงใ) which means 'ambulance please'. Operators will assist with interpretation.
2
Find an English-speaking hospital
Use the Japan Medical Support Network or Tokyo Medical Consultation Center (03-5285-8181, 9amโ8pm daily) to find nearby hospitals with English support.
3
At the hospital
Bring your passport and travel insurance card. You will need to pay upfront and claim reimbursement from your insurer later. Keep all receipts.
