- • Initial fare: ¥500 (first 1.052km)

Know standard taxi rates
Tokyo taxis start at ¥500 for the first 1.052km, then ¥100 per 237m. Late night (22:00–05:00) fares are 20-30% higher. The meter should always be running.

If you believe you were overcharged
Note the taxi's license plate, company name, and driver ID (displayed inside). Ask for a receipt (領収書 ryoushusho). The receipt should show the exact fare.

Report to taxi association
Tokyo: General Incorporated Association of Tokyo Taxi & Livery Services: 03-3648-0300. You can also report to the police.

Use app-based taxis
To avoid overcharging, use Go, Uber, or DiDi where the fare is shown before you ride.
